Blankets

My grandmother passed away a few months before Claire's birth. None of us could believe this wonderful woman who loved laughing and took every opportunity to eat ice cream instead of lunch, was gone.

While sorting through years of memories, my mom found treasures in the form of unfinished knitting projects. She discovered her mother's gift to an unborn Claire -- a baby blanket. My mom immediately decided to finish the blanket for Claire. Never mind that my mom didn't know how to knit and that this project was definitely a task for an advanced knitter, my mom loved the idea of finishing the blanket

In the end my mom admitted that the pattern was too difficult for her skills, and asked my Aunt Julie (my dad's sister) to complete the project. A week and a half of late night knitting later, and there rushed in Aunt Julie, needles still in hand, to my brother Casey and his wife Angela's wedding.

It was fantastic, and far more than a blanket to all of us.

At the hospital, after Anna's arrival, Julie gave us another baby blanket. "The same pattern as your Grandma's". (And a matching hat, too, although the hat somehow didn't make it into this picture.) I was so surprised, so thankful. What a special gift, that both girls have and connects them to so many amazing women in their families.

Especially at this time, when our newly expanded family of four is feeling so thankful, I wanted to be sure to let tell all of our family and friends how much we appreciate all of your support, friendship and kindness. Thank you!


As a side note, my mom and I have been taking knitting classes together to finish some of the other projects my Grandmother had started. They are taking quite a bit longer than Julie's!
